Rebars or tor steel bars have been in use since a long time to provide tensile strength to the concrete slab. The use of rebars in the bottom of the slab increases its moment bearing capacity. This results in a higher load bearing capacity for the same slab thickness. The use of rebars in the top of the slab addresses shrinkage related cracks.
